this photo of gmax was taken at our annual trip to petco on the eve of naw ruz. every year we go to petco so she can buy a fish to have on the haft sin table. every year i am reminded that this is not a quick trip because there are so many fish to choose from.
last year she bought a betta fish (aka siamese fighting fish) after i convinced her that a goldfish would not last more than a few days in the tiny container she wished to put it in (shout-out to all the fish iranian’s kill every year by putting them in containers that are far too small, RIP).
a few months later, much to everyone’s surprise, the betta was still alive. so gmax went bought it a companion…and the rest of this story is far too graphic to tell.
here’s to betta fish year two: fish number three.

LOVE

finally it is here:  this blog is dedicated to and inspired by my (or more accurately, our) sweet grandma aka gmax. it is written with her consent under the premiss that i refrain from mentioning a few specific occurrences that may lead you to believe that she is a shaytoon bala (which she is).

we dont call her gmax to her face because we don’t want her to know that we know that she is a super hero (and that is her code name). she blew her cover though, back when i was small(er) and we’d watch i love lucy together all night. i knew. but i never told her.
